Selecting services

Obics analyses your telemetry per service: it ranks each service’s logs and metrics, and calculates savings for each. Two settings control this.

The service attribute is the telemetry field Obics uses to tell your services apart, commonly service_name, service, or service.name. Obics groups every log line and metric by this field.

Set it from an observability card on the Integrations page: click Edit next to Service attribute. The Grafana wizard also sets it on its final step. When Obics detects the attribute for you, the card marks it (auto); if none is set, the card shows an error icon until you choose one.

Choosing which services to scan (free plan)

Section titled “Choosing which services to scan (free plan)”

On the free plan, scan scope is capped, so you choose which services Obics should spend that budget on. When you set the service attribute, Obics prompts you to pick the services to include (“Free plan: choose which services to scan.”). The Save button stays disabled until you’ve made a selection.

On paid plans this whitelist step isn’t required; Obics scans within the limits configured under Settings → Scan (see Settings), such as the maximum number of services per scan.
